Chitwan National Park is worth visiting for travellers interested in wildlife, nature, and a different side of Nepal beyond mountains and cities. Located in the southern lowlands (Terai region), Chitwan offers jungle landscapes, rivers, and wildlife experiences that contrast strongly with Himalayan trekking areas.
The park is best known for its one-horned rhinoceros, as well as deer, crocodiles, birds, and, with some luck, Bengal tigers. Activities typically include jeep safaris, canoe rides, jungle walks, and visits to local Tharu villages. These activities are usually arranged through lodges or tour operators.
Most travellers spend 2 to 3 days in Chitwan, which is enough time to experience the park without feeling rushed. Chitwan is especially appealing to travellers who are not trekking or who want to balance their trip with wildlife and cultural experiences.
While it may not suit travellers focused purely on mountains or short itineraries, Chitwan adds variety and depth to a Nepal trip.
