For a first trip to Nepal, 7 to 10 days is usually enough to experience the country’s main highlights, while 12 to 20 days allows for trekking or a slower, more immersive journey. The ideal length depends on your interests, travel pace, and whether trekking is part of your plan.
Travellers with limited time often focus on the Kathmandu Valley and Pokhara, which together offer a mix of history, culture, food, and scenery. This kind of itinerary works well for those interested mainly in sightseeing, short hikes, and cultural experiences. Adding Chitwan National Park or a short trek usually requires a few extra days.
If trekking is a priority, more time is essential. Popular treks such as Annapurna Base Camp or Everest Base Camp typically take 10–14 days on their own, including acclimatization. Travel in Nepal often takes longer than expected due to road conditions, weather-related delays, or altitude adjustment, so planning extra buffer days is strongly recommended.
Many first-time visitors try to fit too much into a short trip. Focusing on fewer places and allowing time to adapt to Nepal’s pace often leads to a more enjoyable experience.
