Most travellers do not experience serious scams in Nepal, but minor tourist scams do exist, especially in busy areas. Common examples include inflated taxi prices, unofficial “guides” offering help at temples or trekking routes, and overpriced services presented as urgent or exclusive.
The best way to avoid scams is to use registered services, agree on prices in advance, and avoid pressure-based decisions. Booking through hotels, licensed agencies, or well-reviewed providers reduces risk. Being polite but firm when declining offers is usually enough.
Nepal is generally honest and welcoming, and most interactions are genuine. A little awareness goes a long way.
